Renovating a building for Bayernwerk
During our project for Bayernwerk Netz GmbH in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, everything went differently than planned for the Bachner team under Project Manager Markus Steindl and Site Manager Florian Sauerteig. Back in November 2023, the fire alarm control panel in the lower level of the existing building was replaced so that renovation of the building with a new fire protection concept could begin.
But then, in June 2024, severe flooding hit large parts of southern Germany. Pfaffenhofen was one of the districts that suffered the worst damage. Energy supplier Bayernwerk fell victim to the usually harmless Ilm River, which runs as a stream behind the company campus. The water quickly flooded the building. Unlike many people in the district, Bayernwerk in the city of Pfaffenhofen was spared major damage. Nevertheless, after assessing the situation, it was obvious that the electrical system in the basement and ground floor would have to be redone.

Quick help for Bayernwerk
“In the apprentice workshop on the ground floor, we had to remove all the floor cabling and installations and redo them,” recalled Sauerteig. "We also reconnected the training benches to the power supply and installed an emergency stop circuit with a rip cord."
This was just one of several projects that the team took on at Bayernwerk in addition to the main projects that were already assigned. To quickly get the energy supplier back up and running after the flood, the Bachner colleagues were there at the site to provide fast, straightforward assistance.
The flood taught Bayernwerk some important lessons for its renovation project. “The building's fire alarm control panel also needs to be redone, because it was located in the lower level,” explained Steindl. “For the installation of the new system, we've made some space on the second floor.”

Electrical technology, telecommunication & more? No problem!
Aside from repairing the water damage to the electrical systems, the main task facing our colleagues on site is just as important: renovating the Bayernwerk building involves a great deal of electrical technology and telecommunication. The team was responsible for various tasks, including the fire alarm system, the power supply for the construction site, the lighting systems, cable routes and the KNX control system for the building automation. That was no problem for the Bachner experts!
“For this project, I am working closely with Florian Sauerteig, our site manager, Cedric Lehmann, our senior technician, and Hamse Mohamoud Nour, our third-year apprentice,” said Steindl. "I'm extremely satisfied with my team. They are 100% reliable."
About Bayernwerk Netz GmbH
Energy supplier Bayernwerk has a long tradition in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm. The origins of the company date back to the end of the 19th century. From 1955 onward, it was locally known as Isar-Amperwerke until it was renamed Bayernwerk in 2013, along with four other regional utilities in Bavaria. The company’s location is home to not only the regional customer center but also its training workshop.
