Digital Flow in Ancient City Walls: Bachner Makes brigk Ingolstadt Come Alive

When it comes to innovative entrepreneurship, Ingolstadt wants to be at the forefront: The brigk digital startup centre is the new think-tank for startups located in the city on the banks of the Danube. The architecture there is also spectacular: a total of four buildings will be the cradle of a great deal of innovation over the coming future. This includes the 18th-century historic Kavalier Dalwigk building. With its barrel vaults, the listed building stands in striking contrast to the three new reinforced-concrete buildings and went into operation over Easter 2022.

PRESERVING THE CHARACTER OF THE BUILDING – WITH OPEN CABLE RUNS

The challenging building complex is an absolute delight for Bachner, which provided the complete electrical engineering, network technology, fire alarm cabling, security lighting and KNX programming. To ensure that the original character of the Kavalier Dalwigk building was not lost, the open cable routing in surface-mounted installations has been maintained. To date, project manager Mario Pejic has ordered more than 10,000 black clamps for bundling the cable harnesses for this purpose. Another challenge has been maintaining open channels and seeking the consultation of the local authorities responsible for the preservation of historical monuments – because you can't just do it here! The local authorities decide where drilling in the walls is allowed, some of which are up to 1.60 metres thick. Such thick walls, by the way, ensure a pleasantly cool climate. So, to prevent the windows from fogging up, Bachner has installed a soffit heating system around the windows.

LET THERE BE LIGHT! THE BRIGK AND ITS LIGHTING HIGHLIGHTS

Bachner illuminates the brigk with handrail lighting that guides creators and visitors to the creative cells. The roof terrace creates an airy ambience with glass flooring illuminated from below. However, anyone thinking that this can’t be topped is mistaken! Elliptical acoustic sails in the Kavalier Dalwigk lend a futuristic charm to the antique, vaulted ceilings. To create this effect, Bachner has installed lighting elements up to eight metres long that run through the acoustic sails in 20 of the building’s rooms.

READY FOR SOMETHING NEW: THE MAKER SPACE IS COMING

The first of the new buildings to go into operation at the brigk is the Maker Space, also known as Building B. All the hardware-related work has already been completed by Bachner, and operations are scheduled to start at the end of July. One highlight installed by Bachner are the wireless switches that control the lights wirelessly as flexibly expandable sensors. Because the main building distribution system is also located in Building B, Mario Pejic and his team had to work in parallel and at great speed here – for without Building B, Kavalier Dalwigk could not start. Buildings C and D are also still awaiting completion, but the future can come to Ingolstadt and Bachner is helping to build it.
